DTU Wind Energy’s section for Aerodynamic Design (AER) invites applications for a position as researcher in Analytical and Numerical Aerodynamics. The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position.


The AER section focuses on aerodynamic, aeroacoustic and aeroelastic research based on modelling and experimental techniques. The research in the AER deals with fidelities ranging from engineering models to vortex-based and CFD models, facilitating Fluid Structure Interaction methods and multidisciplinary design. The tools and knowledge are applied in interaction with the industry in the design process for solving problems or implementing new concepts. Further, the new Poul la Cour Wind Tunnel, the Research Turbine, and the Rotating Test Rig are integrated into our research.


The research field covers a vast range of wind turbine aerodynamic scales - from aerofoils over full-rotor design to wind farms. The focus lies on developing and integrating numerical models of varying fidelity. This effort is supported by continuous validation, verification and uncertainty quantification. The analysis and synthesis of complex interactions in simulated and measured data underpins this role. The research is carried out in project teams in collaboration with various international research and industrial partners.


Responsibilities and tasks 
You will have the opportunity to join an international and cross-disciplinary team, developing advanced CFD, vortex and fluid-structure interaction methods and will engage in integrating those models within DTU Wind Energy’s model chain. You can shape your own research field and personal development and, through close commercial partnerships, even influence the future path of the wind industry. In this context it is detrimental to be open to innovation, change and show ingenuity in your research as well as in your communication with peers, colleagues and the public. You should be critical of your work and be open to advice. Your teaching and supervision should inspire and motivate future generations to work in wind energy and you should strive to achieve ambitious goals.


Specific tasks of your role include:

  • Development of aerodynamic sub-models in our in-house CFD solver EllipSys
  • Develop advanced, big-data processing tools
  • Development of analytical aerodynamic models
  • Advance the integration of aerodynamic models in existing optimization tools
  • Integrate validation & verification as well as uncertainty quantification in model development
  • Contribute to section’s research plan and sharpen own research expertise
  • Conduct and produce high quality original research and disseminate and implement research results through suitable channels to ensure impact
  • Engage in collaborative research with other internal and external research groups as well as industrial partners
  • Provide consulting services to industry
  • Contribute to and initiate funding applications
  • Lead and manage research and commercial projects

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) and several years of post doc research within relevant areas.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.


The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU
