Title: Using Super Capacitor to Enhance Short-term Frequency Control Capabilities of Hybrid Power Plant
In this thesis, the ability to provide fast frequency support using a super capacitor in a converter DC link is investigated. When the frequency is normal, the DC voltage reference is kept constant, but when the frequency is disturbed, the DC voltage reference is changed to control the power response into the AC grid.
The performance of the control in providing fast frequency support is simulated under various frequency events. Sensitivity studies are also carried out. The simulations verify that the super capacitor controller supports the system during frequency events, and the frequency is kept within the permitted limits.
