Composite Mechanics and Structures (COS)

 

Mechanics and analysis of composite materials and structures including microstructural characterization and manufacturing. Composite materials and structures are studied at the microscale, coupon scale and component scale using finite element simulations and analytical models, x-ray tomography and electron microscopy characterization techniques, non-destructive testing methods and structural health monitoring systems. The influence of different stress-strain laws, cohesive laws, and fatigue life laws for the composite structures are studied. Test specimens, substructures and prototypes are realized scaling up to full wind turbine blades.
