Hybrid Energy Storage

The project will develop, test and optimize hybrid energy storage systems, i.e. combinations of different storage technologies with complementary properties. Initially, three storage technologies will be characterized in the laboratory facility SYSLAB at DTU Risø Campus. The performance of the individual technologies will be compared against that of a hybrid storage system combining multiple technologies. The results will be used to develop a sizing and optimization tool which can be used to determine the best combination of storage units for a given application. One such ap- plication - a hybrid storage system integrated into a wind turbine - will be developed towards a full- scale demonstration. Results from this demonstration will be used to further refine the sizing and optimization tool.
